“At Langdale, every design is one-off — shaped by the space, the brief, and years of collective build experience. We don’t follow templates. We create gardens that are made to be built.”

GARDEN design

A strong design sets the tone for the entire project. It gives clarity from the start, avoids delays later, and provides a clear route through to completion. Without it, detail gets lost, decisions are rushed, and the end result rarely matches the original intention.

At Langdale, our design work is rooted in construction. Between our Office team, we hold over 150 years of hands-on landscape building experience with that knowledge feeding directly into our plans. We know what works, what doesn't, and how to design with buildability in mind.

We don’t draw concepts that look good on paper but fall short on site. Every layout, level change, and material choice is thought through. Our designs are comprehensive, practical and ready to build — whether for a complex estate garden or a tight urban plot.

WHY USE A DESIGN AND BUILD COMPANY?

Working with a single team from start to finish keeps the process simple. There are fewer moving parts, and no disconnect between design and construction.

Because our designers and build teams work side by side, communication is fast and clear. If something needs adjusting, we can change it quickly — and make sure it’s done right on site. The project can evolve as it takes shape, without being held back by rigid plans or third-party delays.

This joined-up approach saves time, reduces risk, and gives better results.

THE PROCESS

Initial Consultation: Following your initial enquiry, we will arrange to visit you on site to discuss your ideas, vision and what you want from your garden.

Design Proposal: If the project is a good fit for both parties we will put together a design proposal which includes a topographical survey of the site to capture all levels and boundaries.

Design Brief Meeting: If you want to proceed then our lead designer Dermott will visit for a further design brief meeting.

Initial Design Presention: A detailed garden masterplan will be drawn up and presented to you in person or over Zoom.

Finalisation of Design: Any amendments will be incorporated into a final garden design which will form the template for a detailed budget breakdown.

3D Concept Renders: Digital 3D modelling can be developed at this stage to further bring the design of your new garden to life, seeing how the proposed design will integrate with your space.

Sign off and Build: Upon budget approval more refined drawings will be drawn up for each element of the garden and specific materials recommended and chosen.Working with a single team from start to finish keeps the process simple. Planting Design & Installation

Planting That Builds Structure and Seasonal Interest

Plants bring depth, rhythm, and permanence to a garden. At Langdale Landscapes, our planting design service balances architectural form with natural softness—selecting each species for its performance, placement, and contribution to the wider composition.

Our schemes are developed to thrive in their setting, with attention given to soil condition, drainage, and microclimate. We work with trusted nurseries across the UK and Europe to source healthy specimens that provide instant impact and long-term value.

We often develop planting schemes alongside hard landscaping and garden structure. However, we also work with clients, architects and interior designers looking to refresh or upgrade existing gardens through expert planting alone.
